Subject Matters is a curated show of established, evolving, and emerging local artists whose work focuses on social topics. This programming provides a low-cost platform for local, artists to exhibit their work in an environment that fosters growth, community exchange, and art advocacy. Selected artists will show their work, twice alongside a Featured Artist and their peers. Up to 4 Emerging Artists will be considered for an additional performance for the culminating event, in May 2024. The series includes a pre & post-show artist bazaar, virtual forums on socially relevant topics, and movement-based workshops in Charlotte creative spaces.

Targeted Content 

Subject Matters welcomes works that address any of the following:

• Health, Wellness, and the US Medical System

• Educational Systems Nationwide

• US Political Structure

• Native American/BIPOC History & Culture

• Spirituality and/or Religion

• History, Identity and Legacy
  
  Applicants must

• Be 18 years of age or older

• Provide residency in Charlotte for more than 2 years

• Submit a $15.00 online application fee

• Include a current, accessible links to all materials via Google Drive

• Submit an original work, created by the applicant

• Be in compliance with all the programming requirements, performance dates, and production information

Artists can submit up to two works for each performance, which will be reviewed by the adjudication panel for inclusion.

Adjudication Criteria
Each area will be scored from 14-25 points. Applicants must score 75%+ overall to be considered.

• Creativity of Presentation

• Delivery of Content

• Performance Quality

• Artistic Composition

The adjudication panel consists of directors, professional dancers for major companies, college professors, and educators from prominent institutions spanning the Southeastern to Mid-Atlantic Coast. The adjudication process will assess each submission by a rubric, based on the criteria above.
